FRSC deploys 2,500 officers for ‘ember months’

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC),
in Kwara, has deployed 2,500 officers to
ensure hitch free ‘ember months’ activities in
the state.
The Sector Commandant in the state, Mr
Sunday Maku, stated this in Ilorin on
Wednesday.
Maku said the command was in top gear for
the ember months in the state.
He said the command has since embarked on
proper sensitisation visit to all stakeholders in
the state on the need for people to be
cautious while driving.
He also called on all road users in the state to
ensure proper maintenance of their
automobiles and desist from using fairly used
tyres as well as substandard spare parts.
The commandant urged road users to avoid
overloading and to stay away from hard drugs
and alcohol whenever they want to use the
roads.
He said that that the command would partner
with all securities agencies in the state to
ensure hitch free ember months.
He also called for attitudinal behaviours of all
road users to abide by the rule and regulation
of the road.
The sector command also noted that there has
been proper sensitisation of all commands in
the state to pulp for the action of the ember
month.
He said further that there would be continuous
sensitisation and reorientation of road users,
saying that the campaign would be taken to
mosque, churches, and even Club houses in
order to avert untimely road crash for people
in the state.
Maku revealed that the sector may impose
January 2017 for the speed limiting device for
road users in the state.
“Seventy per cent of road crashes are caused
by speeding. I am, therefore, calling on all to
ensure they install speed limiting devices in
their vehicles without delay.
“The state command only recorded 10 to 15
deaths in the state since the beginning of this
year, which has proven that the state
command had been working tirelessly,” he
said.
